Hotel Description

You know, I’ve walked past Albergo Celide on Viale Giuseppe Giusti probably a dozen times before I actually stayed there – it’s one of those places that looks quietly elegant from the street but doesn’t scream for attention like some of the flashier hotels near the city walls. What struck me first was how the building itself feels like it belongs in the neighborhood, nestled between those tree-lined streets that make this part of Lucca feel more residential than touristy. The entrance has this understated Italian sophistication that I really appreciate – no marble fountains or over-the-top chandeliers, just clean lines and that warm lighting that somehow makes you feel welcome before anyone even says hello.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Lucca like someone who actually lives here. You’re about a ten-minute walk from the historic center (which means you avoid the morning tour bus chaos), but close enough that you can easily pop back for an afternoon rest – something I definitely needed after climbing Torre Guinigi in the July heat. The street itself is surprisingly quiet considering how central you are, though you will hear the occasional Vespa puttering by in the early morning. I mean, this is Italy, so that’s practically part of the charm. What I loved most was being able to walk to that little alimentari on Via del Fosso for morning cornetti, or grabbing aperitivo at the local bars where you’re more likely to hear Italian than English. The staff seemed genuinely excited to share their favorite spots too – not the usual tourist traps, but places like that tiny osteria near San Frediano where the ribollita is absolutely incredible.

The rooms themselves hit that sweet spot between modern comfort and Italian character. Mine had these lovely shutters that actually blocked out the light (a rarity in my experience with European hotels), and the bathroom was properly sized – not one of those closet-sized affairs where you’re bumping into everything. The air conditioning worked well, which honestly saved my life during that heat wave in August. I particularly appreciated the attention to small details: decent WiFi that didn’t cut out every five minutes, enough outlets for all my devices, and a coffee setup that didn’t involve those terrible pod machines. The beds were firm in that good European way, and I slept better than I had in weeks of travel. Sure, the decor isn’t going to win any design awards – it’s fairly classic Italian hotel style – but everything felt fresh and well-maintained. After staying at a few places around Tuscany where “charming” seemed to mean “we haven’t updated anything since 1987,” this was refreshingly comfortable without losing that authentic Italian feel that makes you remember you’re not just in any generic hotel room.

Reviews

  • A very relaxing stay – Willem from Netherlands – 15 July 2025 (8/10)

The hotel is just outside the old city walls, at walking distance of all highlights. The staff makes you feel very welcome and makes sure you feel at home. The hotel also provides bikes free of charge to ride around the city and on the city walls.
The massage in the spa was outstanding.

What could be improved: Nothing 😄

  • Ideal – Olga from Russia – 13 July 2025 (9/10)

Perfect stay. The hotel is situated just outside the medieval wall, which surrounds the Old Town – it's a walking distance from the railway station and from the entrance into the Old Town. Very conveniently there is a seafood restaurant and a cafe situated just nearby. The hotel has a rooftop terrace and a spa, the latter I unfortunately did not have time to try. The team is very helpful and is around 24 hours. The room was super clean, the cleaning happened daily, the AC worked well, the water pressure was good in the shower, the bed was big and soft and just like i needed it.

What could be improved: There is literally nothing i could think about

  • Exceptional – Carole from Canada – 11 July 2025 (10/10)

Great location just outside the walls of the old city. The hotel was easy to find and has a large parking lot. Breakfast was lovely with a large selection of delicious items.

  • Modern hotel right outside the city walls with all the amenities – Catherine from United States – 9 July 2025 (10/10)

Lovely property outside the city walls — which is great when the temperature is cooler than the high 90s. It was a respite from the town center. Two restaurants are nearby (both with Celide in their title) and great experiences. The staff at the Albergo are very accommodating and helpful.

  • Exceptional – Christine from United Kingdom – 7 July 2025 (10/10)

Great position, just outside the old walls.
Good car parking space, friendly helpful staff.
Comfy clean rooms and good breakfast.

  • Exceptional – Zuzana from Czech Republic – 7 July 2025 (10/10)

Very nice restaurant in the hotel, nice staff

  • Convenient and functional hotel by city walls – Matthew from Italy – 29 June 2025 (8/10)

The position was really convenient. Just outside Lucca city walls. Parking easy. I think the most positive part of the stay was the very professional and extremely friendly and kind staff on the front desk. We also liked the Bar Celide next to the hotel.

What could be improved: I guess the only negative factor was quite noisy air conditioning unit from the spa and the restaurant next to the hotel. With the window closed it was not a disturbance but when open, it was a bit noisy. To be fair the very kind staff offered to change our room but we decided to stay and had a good nights sleep with the window shut..

  • Amazing stay in Celide at Lucca – Mareanto711 from Italy – 28 June 2025 (8/10)

All amazing, the staff, the cleanliness, the building and the breakfast.

What could be improved: a bit of old furniture.

  • Excellent hotel in ideal location – Desmond from United Kingdom – 17 June 2025 (9/10)

Room was not large but had sufficient storage and the bathroom big enough to lay out your toiletries. Bed was comfortable. The air conditioning was good – important as it was so hot. We slept very well. The shower was very good too. Breakfast was excellent and served in a lovely , bright room. Location of the hotel is great – just outside the city wall and an easy ten minute walk to the train station . The hotel has a lovely garden terrace on the first

  • Great, comfortable stay in a beautiful location – Laura from United States – 6 June 2025 (10/10)

Excellent location with easy access into the walled city, very nice staff, easy parking.
