You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Agriturismo Podere Bucine Basso on Via Del Commercio – honestly, the address made it sound like some industrial area. But man, was I wrong. This place sits in the heart of Lari’s countryside, and once you’re past that unassuming entrance, you’re basically in Tuscan paradise. The 4-star rating feels about right, maybe even a bit modest for what you actually get here.

The thing about this agriturismo is that it feels genuinely lived-in, not like some sterile hotel trying to play farm. I mean, you can smell the olive groves in the morning air, and there’s this constant background soundtrack of actual farm life – roosters doing their thing, tractors rumbling in the distance. The rooms have that rustic-chic vibe down pat, with exposed beams and terracotta floors that actually creak a little when you walk (which I found charming, though light sleepers might want to pack earplugs). Check-in was refreshingly personal – the family running it actually remembered my name and asked about my drive from Florence without making it feel forced.

What really sets this place apart is the location in Lari itself. Most tourists rush straight to San Gimignano or Volterra, but honestly? Lari’s got this incredible medieval castle that you can practically walk to, and the local restaurants – especially that little trattoria down the hill – serve food that puts some of the touristy spots to shame. The agriturismo’s own restaurant is solid too, though I’d recommend booking dinner early since they fill up fast, especially on weekends. Parking’s no issue here (thank god, because trying to park in these hill towns can be a nightmare), and you’re close enough to the main Pisa-Florence route that day trips are totally doable. The 8.4 rating feels spot-on – it’s not perfect, the wifi can be spotty in some rooms, and the breakfast service runs a bit slow when they’re full, but there’s something about waking up to those rolling hills and knowing you’re staying somewhere that actually produces its own wine and olive oil. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay just because leaving feels wrong.

  We traveled with a big dog and this was the perfect place for us, as there was a big field steps away from our room to let the dog run for the early morning and late evening walks. And there was no extra charge for the dog! That was really appreciated. The rolling hills countryside is beautiful there. The staff were particularly kind and helpful. They host large events, serving 200+ guests at a time, and do it very professionally. The free continental breakfast was just ok. We had an evening meal there as well, which was very good. The room was large and comfortable. We saw a large and beautiful flock of European Bee Eater birds flying around the olive grove. Very relaxed and quiet place for a fair price.
  
  What could be improved: We couldn't get the SKY TV service to work even after following the directions. Room darkening window shades would have been appreciated.

  The dinner was excellent. Having a pool to cool off in such a hot weather was refreshing.

  Bellissima struttura immersa nel verde. Camera adeguata e pulita. Zona piscina stupenda. Ottimo il ristorante ma soprattutto la disponibilità del proprietario e di tutto lo staff

  Bellissima struttura immersa nel verde, personale gentilissimo e accogliente: ci siamo sentiti a casa!
  Camera con ingresso indipendente e piccolo tavolino all'esterno, pulita e spaziosa, bagno grande e piacevolmente riscaldato.
  Grande piscina, ben curata e posizionata in una zona tranquilla dell'ampio giardino.
  Abbiamo cenato al loro ristornante: super cena!
  Carne veramente buona, come del resto anche i piatti vegetariani, il tutto ad un prezzo veramente onesto!
  Senza dimenticare il buon vino che producono direttamente nel loro podere!
  
  What could be improved: Migliorerei la colazione. Ad esempio allestendo un buffet, anche piccolo da cui poter scegliere, con magari della frutta o anche qualcosa di salato.
  Questo anche al fine di evitare gli sprechi x il cibo posizionato sul tavolo e non richiesto, nel ns. caso le brioche che abbiamo avanzato.
  Comunque la Signora gentilissima che ci serviva si premurava di portarci nel limite delle sue possibilità ciò che le chiedevamo. Davvero grazie x la sua premura e cortesia!

  What could be improved: tra l'imbarazzante e il divertente dondolarsi romanticamente su un'altalena mentre tutti dormono….e sentire invece la passione scoppiare nella dependance (probabilmente di una dipendente 🙂 )
