You know what really struck me about Agriturismo Il Selvino? It’s the kind of place where you actually hear the olive branches rustling outside your window instead of traffic. Located on via Pieve De’ Pitti in Terricciola – honestly, I had to look up how to pronounce the town name before I arrived – this converted farmhouse sits in that perfect sweet spot where Tuscany feels authentically rural but you’re not completely cut off from civilization.

The property itself is exactly what you’d hope for from a 4-star agriturismo. I mean, the stone walls and terracotta floors aren’t just for show – they keep the rooms surprisingly cool even during those scorching August afternoons. The owners (a local family who’ve been working this land for generations) have done something really thoughtful with the restoration. They kept all the character – exposed beams, original fireplaces, those thick walls that make you feel like you’re in a fortress – but added modern touches where they actually matter. The Wi-Fi works well, the bathrooms are properly updated, and there’s decent parking right on the property, which honestly saved me from the nightmare of navigating narrow medieval streets with a rental car.

What really sets this place apart is how it connects you to the working vineyard and olive grove surrounding it. During harvest season in September, you’ll wake up to the sound of workers in the fields – it’s not disruptive, just this gentle reminder that you’re staying somewhere real. The breakfast features their own olive oil (you can taste the difference, I promise), local cheeses, and honestly some of the best homemade jam I’ve had in Italy. The family is incredibly knowledgeable about the area too – they pointed me toward this tiny enoteca in nearby Peccioli that I never would have found otherwise, and steered me away from the tourist traps in Volterra. The 9.1 rating makes perfect sense when you experience that level of genuine hospitality. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find a spa or room service, but if you’re looking for an authentic slice of Tuscan countryside with owners who actually care about your experience, Il Selvino delivers exactly that. Plus, the location gives you easy access to both the coast and the hill towns without feeling like you’re just passing through.

  The kids loved the pool and the apartment felt huge. We enjoyed cooking dinner in the evenings and exploring around the area during the day. They even had a coin operated washing machine which we used.

  Elena and Alessandro have created a wonderful place where you can feel very comfortable as a family! The accommodation and garden is a perfect Tuscan hideaway and a perfect location for day trips to Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano, Volterra, Siena or Florence. Even to Bolgheri it is only 45 minutes by car.
  
  The accommodation and the entire facility are very well maintained and clean.
  
  The dinner, which can be booked 3 times a week in the high season, is authentic and of a high standard: very tasty!
  
  The hosts are very family-friendly and welcoming. When it matters most, they are happy to help wherever they can.

  Alessandro and Elena are very friendly and helpful hosts. The second time we stayed with them and still love the place. Ideal location for exploring Tuscany and the nearby wineries. Large garden with a pool, the kids loved playing in the garden in the evening with the other kids while we, the parents enjoyed our meal in the restaurant.
