Agriturismo Il Casolare Di Bucciano Overview

You know what struck me first about Il Casolare Di Bucciano? The drive up through those winding cypress-lined roads actually makes you feel like you’re in one of those Tuscan postcards – except it’s real, and honestly, even better than the photos suggest. This place sits in Località Racciano, which sounds fancy but really just means you’re tucked away in the hills about ten minutes from San Gimignano proper. The moment you pull up (and yes, there’s proper parking – thank god, because navigating rental cars on these narrow roads is… well, let’s just say it’s character-building), you’re greeted by this beautifully restored farmhouse that somehow manages to feel both rustic and polished.

The agriturismo sits on working land, so you’ll wake up to actual farm sounds – roosters, distant sheep, that sort of thing. I mean, if you’re the type who needs absolute silence, maybe this isn’t for you, but honestly? There’s something deeply satisfying about those morning sounds when you’re sipping coffee on your terrace overlooking the Val d’Elsa. The rooms have that perfect Tuscan balance of exposed beams and modern comfort – the beds are actually good (not always a given in these historic properties), and the bathrooms have been thoughtfully updated without losing the old-world charm. What really gets me is how the family who runs this place – they’re genuinely lovely people who clearly take pride in what they’ve created here. They’ll tell you about the best hiking trails (there’s one that leads to a medieval watchtower most tourists never find), recommend the family-run osteria down in Bucciano village, and somehow remember exactly how you like your breakfast eggs.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to explore this part of Tuscany without staying right in the thick of tourist central. San Gimignano is close enough for evening strolls among those famous towers, but you can escape back to the peaceful countryside when the day-tripper crowds get overwhelming. I particularly loved how quiet it gets here after sunset – you can actually see stars, which is something you forget exists when you live in a city. The breakfast situation deserves a mention too: fresh local ingredients, homemade everything, and they serve it on this covered terrace that catches the morning light just right. Pro tip: if you’re here in late spring or early fall, the weather is absolutely perfect for those long, lazy mornings over coffee and fresh pastries. Sure, you’ll need a car to get around properly, but that’s true for most of rural Tuscany anyway. This place has that rare quality of feeling both authentically Italian and genuinely welcoming to travelers – not always easy to find, especially somewhere with an 8.9 rating that’s actually earned.

Reviews of Agriturismo Il Casolare Di Bucciano

  • Exceptional – Veronika from United States – 10 July 2025 (10/10)

The location was spectacular and the vineyard and grounds were beautiful. The pool was great, breakfast was tasty and the 4 course dinner was some of the best food my family had in Italy! They had several fat and friendly cats around the property and it was a relatively close drive to San gimignano.

What could be improved: There were some ants in the room and a gecko which could not get out and so it left some droppings. While that was less than ideal I understand it is a vineyard and converted barn and would stay again in a heart beat.

  • A serene and scenic stay with warm, thoughtful hospitality – we truly enjoyed our time here. – Jagna from Estonia – 10 July 2025 (8/10)

Beautiful and peaceful location with amazing views over the Tuscan hills. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing – perfect for a countryside break. The pool area was clean and refreshing. We are especially thankful for the warm hospitality and the flexibility shown during breakfast – it really meant a lot.

What could be improved: Everything was lovely overall. Just as a small note – the shower corner could have been a bit more comfortable, as the door was a little tricky and space quite limited.

  • Exceptional – John from Canada – 29 June 2025 (10/10)

We loved staying here. The view is beautiful, which was the main reason we booked here. The staff were very nice. Don't listen to the bad reviews of the staff being rude. They are lovely. I highly recommend having dinner there. It was the nicest most peaceful dinner we had in all of Italy on our 3 week trip, and the dinner was very good value. Home cooked Tuscan cuisine. We had 3 kids with us, they loved the pool and the resident cats, and catching fireflies at night. If we return to Tuscany in the next few years we will absolutely book another stay.

  • Tuscany at its best! – Jennifer from Australia – 19 June 2025 (10/10)

What a location! Beautiful views over the valley from our room. Some staff were wonderful and some were not quite so friendly but I think that's just Italy!. Clean room, spacious and nicely furnished.

  • Exceptional – Delphina from Canada – 16 June 2025 (10/10)

The view from the hotel is amazing and its a very romantic place to stay. However getting there can be tricky without a car. Its about 10 mins away from the main town. The staff was very nice. Breakfast was great with lots of good options. We had dinner there both nights & it was very tasty, but a bit overpriced.

  • Superb – Da-yup from United States – 4 June 2025 (9/10)

AMAZING view of Tuscany and San Gimignano from the agriturismo. We didn't have time for the pool, but we got to dip our toes in and enjoy the view. Such a serene and calming place. Loved eating their buffet style breakfast with the view. Wish we got to stay another night and just soak it all in and relax longer, and even try their dinner!

What could be improved: The rooms were a bit smaller than we thought, but still good! This might be personal to just me and my husband, but the building is older and I think we might be sensitive to the dust or particles or whatever those old buildings have. Stuffed sinuses the whole night (we also get this whenever we visited old cathedrals and tourist sites).

  • Once in a lifetime Tuscany experience. – Esra from United Kingdom – 28 May 2025 (10/10)

Stunning views, amazing atmosphere. Food was amazing. It is a small property and although it was full, you feel at home and not crowded. A real Tuscany experience.

  • Heaven in Italy! – Jennifer from United States – 20 May 2025 (10/10)

Waking up and having breakfast outdoors in the Tuscan countryside was priceless!! The views of San Gimignano were breathtaking! The room was spacious and clean, and the breakfast was delicious. Staff was friendly and the architecture was beautiful. We would definitely stay here again!

  • Beautiful, comfortable stay in a historic farmhouse with amazing views, great food and a pool. – Rebecca from United Kingdom – 16 May 2025 (10/10)

This was the most beautiful place to stay, in a fabulous location with glorious views back to San Gimignano. The family and staff were kind and welcoming and we were made to feel at home. I joined family and friends for a short break in May. The rooms are well appointed and rustic as is fitting with the location, the ensuite was a good size and everything was spotlessly clean. The beds were really comfortable and waking up to the amazing view and sunrise over the Tuscan countryside every morning was just wonderful. The breakfasts were very generous, with coffee/tea, cereals, juice, cold meats, eggs, cheese, bread, cornetto and lots of cake which I would not usually eat that time of day but it was delicious. The dinners, which you can prebook on the day for an extra and very reasonable charge, were also very good with a starter, pasta, main meal and dessert. The wine was very good too. There are gluten free and dairy free alternatives available if you ask. You can eat inside in the cosy dining room if it's cool or outside on the terrace if it's warm, with the same amazing views back to San Gimignano. We walked around the property and in the evening enjoyed the firefly display (apparently only in May and June) in the vineyards. Unexpected and really magical. The pool is a very good size, unheated but just the thing on a warm day! I noticed other guests ordering coffee to be brought out poolside so that is an option in the day also. I will definitely be back with my family to stay again, what a wonderful place, thank you to everyone at the Il Casolare di Bucciano. x

What could be improved: Very hard to think of anything I didn't like – an extra pillow in the bedroom would have been great for reading in bed, but I'm sure one would have been readily available had I remembered to ask for it. A faultless stay and I would highly recommend this agriturismo.
