You know what really caught me off guard about Agriturismo Fattoria Lavacchio? The fact that you can actually hear the olive trees rustling at night – I mean, that sounds cheesy, but it’s this gentle sound that makes you forget Florence is just 20 minutes away. The property sits on Via di Grignano, which is basically this winding country road that makes you question your GPS until you suddenly arrive at what feels like your Italian grandmother’s estate (assuming she had impeccable taste and a serious wine cellar).

The whole setup is honestly brilliant because it’s not trying to be some slick resort. The rooms are in these converted farm buildings that still smell faintly of old wood and lavender, and each one feels completely different – some have those thick stone walls that keep everything cool even in July, others have these massive windows overlooking the vineyards where you’ll probably spend way too much time just watching the light change. The family that runs it, they’re not hovering but they’re around, and you’ll likely end up in some conversation about the best time to harvest grapes or which trail leads to the old chapel ruins. Their breakfast spread is dangerous – fresh ricotta that’s probably made that morning, honey from their own hives, and this bread that makes you understand why Italians get weird about carbs.

What really makes this place work is the location in Pontassieve. It’s far enough from Florence that you’re not dealing with tour bus noise, but close enough that you can actually drive in for dinner without it being this whole production. The train station is maybe 10 minutes if you don’t want to deal with city parking – and honestly, taking the train back after a night in Florence feels very civilized. Plus, you’re right in Chianti territory here, so there are all these tiny wineries tucked into the hills that you’d never find without staying somewhere like this. The owners will point you toward the good ones, not the touristy spots. There’s parking right on the property (which matters more than you think), and the Wi-Fi actually works if you need to pretend you’re being productive. The pool area gets busy around 3 PM when day-trippers arrive, but mornings and evenings it’s just you and maybe a couple other guests. I’d skip peak summer if you can – spring and fall are when this place really shines, when the weather’s perfect for those long dinners outside and the landscape looks like something out of a Renaissance painting.

  Everything at Agriturismo Fattoria Lavacchio was simply amazing. Every member of the staff gave us an absolutely unforgettable vacation/honeymoon. The owner Faye and her husband Dimitri were so kind and really made us feel at home. Their primary employees Martina, Francesca and Simone were top class. Not to mention Tatsu, their amazing wine somelier, who gave us a tour to remember. Everything was 10 out of 10 – the local bioorganic food and wine, the facilities, the views… Eveything was perfect!
  
  The location is secluded and beautiful, but still close to Florence and other lovely cities.

  Beautiful grounds and views. Lovely pool area. Really nice breakfast, including some home made produce. Short drive to Florence centre. Fantastic stay. Staff were accommodating and attentive.

  The surroundings were stunning. Peaceful and so beautiful to see. Our apartment was quite even though we had a young family next door, we could not hear them or anyone else. The staff were lovely and always happy to help you. Christian in particular was very lovely, friendly & super attentive!!

  What’s not to like? It’s nearly impossible to get to without renting a car (or taking an expensive cab ride from Florence), but if you’re looking for gorgeous scenery, tranquility, delicious food, great wine, and an amazing staff that makes you feel cared for, this is the place for you. My friend and I stayed at the Casanova suite. It was more than enough room for 2 people and the outdoor spaces were great!
  
  The staff, specifically Martina, were so kind, helpful, and down to earth. The pool was stunning and the restaurant was really incredible!
  
  What could be improved: It’s tough to get a taxi from the Pontassieve train station. I hadn’t planned on renting a car, but realized on the first day that I needed one. That’s my own fault for not doing better research. The ride up the hill might be tough for inexperienced drivers.

  The breakfast was amazing with local products from the area. The location is also great if you don't want to stay in the centre of Florence. It's about 30-40 minutes away from Florence by car, and a nice spot from where you can explore the Tuscany. The room is also really nice, comfortable and traditional as it should be.
