You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of agriturismos in Tuscany, but Agriturismo Colle del Sole really caught me off guard – in the best way possible. First off, finding Via Carbone in Porcari is honestly easier than you’d think, especially if you’re driving up from Lucca (which is only about 15 minutes away). The GPS gets you most of the way there, though like most Italian country roads, that last stretch feels a bit like you’re going nowhere until suddenly you’re there.

The place itself sits on this gentle hill – colle means hill, so they weren’t being creative with the name, just honest – and the swimming pool is actually what sold me on booking. I mean, July in Tuscany without a pool is just masochistic. But here’s the thing that surprised me: the pool area doesn’t feel like an afterthought. It’s positioned so you get these morning views across the valley, and honestly, having my coffee there around 8 AM became this whole ritual. The water’s kept really clean too, which… well, you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case at smaller places. The family running it clearly takes pride in the details – there’s always fresh towels, the pool furniture isn’t that cheap plastic stuff, and they’ve got these umbrellas that actually provide shade.

What really makes this place work though is how it balances that authentic farmhouse feeling with actual comfort. The rooms are in this restored stone building that feels substantial, not like those renovations where they just slapped some beams on the ceiling and called it rustic. My room had these thick walls that kept things cool during the day and – this matters if you’re a light sleeper like me – you really don’t hear much from neighboring rooms or outside. The breakfast setup happens in this covered terrace area, and they do that Italian thing where it’s not a huge buffet but everything they have is really good. Fresh ricotta, local honey, proper espresso that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine that’s been sitting around for months.

Porcari itself is sort of perfectly positioned if you want to explore but not deal with crowds. You’re close enough to Lucca for dinner (seriously, drive there for aperitivo at least once), but you can also head toward the coast – Viareggio’s beaches are maybe 20 minutes if you time it right. The hosts gave me this hand-drawn map showing back roads to avoid traffic, which honestly saved me probably hours over a week-long stay. That 9.7 rating isn’t just people being nice – it’s because places like this remind you why you wanted to come to Italy in the first place. It’s not trying to be a luxury resort, it’s just doing the agriturismo thing really, really well.

  The property was very well equipped and well managed by our loverly welcoming host, who provided treats for us and made us very welcome.
  The pool was a real bonus in the hot weather, as was the washing machine.
  There is lots to do around the area and many village’s to explore, as long as you have a car.

  Location is great, the house is away from noise and traffic, while at the same time with easy access to cities and towns worth visiting. The place is air conditioned, has all the amenities and is every well furnished and decorated. The small swimming pool is perfect for families traveling with children.

  J’ai tout aimé , absolument tout. Appartement très cosy, propre avec beaucoup de commodités. La cuisine est très bien équipée. L’espace laverie propre et bien pensé avec mise à disposition de séchoir. Les déchets sont triés. Des poubelles sont à notre dispositions et vidées chaque jour. C’est un endroit charmant, avec de magnifiques vues sur la campagne Toscane.
  De plus il est placé de manière stratégique pour visiter les sites les plus connus :Lucca ,Pisa ,Florence, Cinque Terre au départ de la Spezia. De plus la mer a 30 min en voiture( viareggio ). En ce qui concerne le village de Porcari il offre tous les commerces nécessaires. Deux supermarchés pas loin. 10min en voiture de l’établissement. Tiziana, la propriétaire, est extrêmement gentille et très avenante avec ses hôtes. N’hésitez pas à la contacter pour tous renseignements elle saura vous aider. Un grand merci a Angelo, le propriétaire, pour le magnifique lieu qu’il entretient avec passion.
