Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Agriturismo Bio San Mamiliano on that dusty stretch of Strada Provinciale Trappola, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The road feels like it goes on forever through the Maremma countryside, and you start wondering if your GPS is having a breakdown. But then you see the property emerge from all that wild Tuscan landscape, and it just… makes sense.

This place is the real deal when it comes to agriturismo – not one of those fancy converted estates that feels more like a resort. You’re actually staying on a working organic farm about 20 minutes from Grosseto proper, which means you’ll hear roosters in the morning (fair warning if you’re not an early riser) and smell that earthy, herb-heavy air that only comes from genuine countryside. The family running it has been here for generations, and you can tell – they know every trail, every local producer, every shortcut to the coast. Speaking of which, you’re surprisingly close to some incredible beaches along the Tyrrhenian. The Trappola beach is practically in your backyard, though most tourists miss it entirely because they’re all heading to the more famous spots further south.

The rooms have that authentic farmhouse feel without being rustic to the point of discomfort – I mean, the wifi actually works and the shower has proper pressure. What really got me was how they’ve maintained the original stone walls and wooden beams while sneaking in modern touches where they matter. The breakfast alone is worth the stay – fresh eggs from their own chickens, homemade jams, and this incredible pecorino that comes from sheep you can literally see grazing outside your window. You know what’s funny? They grow most of their own vegetables, and you can taste the difference in everything. Even the olive oil has this peppery kick that you just don’t get from store-bought stuff.

The location is actually perfect if you want to explore the Maremma without dealing with crowds. Grosseto’s old town is close enough for dinner (try the area around Piazza Dante), but you’re also well-positioned for day trips to places like Castiglione della Pescaia or even Pitigliano if you don’t mind a drive. Parking is never an issue – honestly, that’s a huge relief after dealing with Italian city centers. The owners, well, they’re the type who remember your name and genuinely want to help you discover their corner of Tuscany. They pointed me toward this tiny winery about ten minutes away that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my favorite discoveries of the trip. Sure, it’s not luxury in the five-star hotel sense, but there’s something deeply satisfying about staying somewhere that feels this connected to the land and local culture.

Reviews

  • 100% a place where I’ll come back – Maria from Italy – 8 August 2024 (10/10)

The management, simply the kindest hosts ever.
The apartment was just perfect for us.

What could be improved: Nothing really.

  • Wonderful place, very kind host – Anonymous from Poland – 15 July 2025 (10/10)

    Lovely breakfast

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Perfetta – Stefano from Italy – 11 July 2025 (9/10)

Posizione, pulizia, struttura affascinante, immerso nel verde, silenzioso, ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo

  • Veramente soddisfacente – Andrea from Italy – 9 July 2025 (9/10)

Ottima accoglienza, atmosfera piacevole e rilassante. Giardino molto bello, spazi ampi personale estremamente cordiale.

  • Idealne na wyjazd z rodziną – Jacek from Poland – 6 July 2025 (8/10)

    Otoczenie, obsługa

    What could be improved: –

  • Relax in campagna – Bimbomix67 from Italy – 20 June 2025 (9/10)

  • Superb – Anna from Italy – 20 June 2025 (9/10)

    personale accogliente e gentile.

What could be improved: tutto okay tranne insetti, ma fa parte di posto essendo in natura totale

  • Superb – Luca from Italy – 14 June 2025 (9/10)

Struttura immersa nel verde. Staff disponibile

What could be improved: Troppi insetti in questo periodo

  • In quel di Grosseto – Igor from Italy – 29 March 2025 (7/10)

Buona posizione per i luoghi nei dintorni. Colazione discreta e messa a disposizione nei tempi corretti. Appartamento ampio e adeguatamente fornito.

What could be improved: Il letto è stato leggermente troppo duro ma soprattutto i cuscini troppo impalbabili: quindi la qualità del sonno non è stata il massimo.

  • Agriturismo Bio San Mamiliano, una fantastica scoperta – Maria from Italy – 4 October 2024 (9/10)
