You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Affittacamere Firenze in Libertà Parterre – the name’s a bit of a mouthful, honestly – but this place actually surprised me. It’s tucked away on Viale Don Giovanni Minzoni in the Campo Di Marte neighborhood, which I’ll admit isn’t where most tourists end up, but that’s exactly what makes it interesting. You’re genuinely in a residential part of Florence here, where you’ll hear Italian conversations drifting from apartment windows instead of tour groups chattering in five languages.

The building itself has that understated Florentine charm – none of the tourist-trap flashiness you get near the Duomo, just solid architecture that feels authentically local. Inside, the rooms are well-appointed without being fussy (I mean, it’s got that 4-star rating for a reason), and honestly, the 8.8 guest rating makes sense once you settle in. The staff actually seem to care about what they’re doing, which… well, anyone who’s traveled in Italy knows that’s not always a given. What really won me over was how quiet it gets at night – Campo Di Marte doesn’t have the constant stream of late-night revelers that you’d deal with in the historic center, so you can actually sleep with the windows open and catch that lovely evening breeze.

Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they’re there: you’re about a 15-minute walk to the Stadio Artemio Franchi if you’re into football, and the whole area has this lived-in feel that’s refreshing after a day of navigating crowds at the Uffizi. There’s a decent tram connection (the T1 line isn’t far) that’ll get you to Santa Maria Novella station or the city center without much fuss, but honestly, I found myself enjoying the walk along the tree-lined streets. The neighborhood has these little family-run shops and cafés where you can grab a proper cornetto in the morning – the kind of places where the barista remembers your order after two days. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from the Ponte Vecchio, but that also means you’re not paying Ponte Vecchio prices for everything. Plus, when you do head into the tourist zones, you’ve got this nice, quiet base to retreat to. It’s sort of like having a local friend’s apartment to crash at, except with daily housekeeping and proper towels.
