AdAstra Suites
Florence, ItalyYou know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down Via Del Campuccio – it’s this narrow little street that honestly feels more residential than touristy, which actually turned out to be perfect. AdAstra Suites sits right there in San Frediano, and I mean, if you know Florence at all, you’ll get why this location is sort of genius. You’re far enough from the Duomo crowds that you can actually breathe, but close enough that the Ponte Vecchio is maybe a fifteen-minute walk through some of the prettiest backstreets in the city. The building itself has that understated Florentine thing going on – you’d walk right past it if you weren’t looking, but once you’re inside, it’s like they’ve managed to keep all the character (those ceiling beams, the original stone work) while actually making everything work properly. The AC doesn’t sound like a freight train, the shower pressure is decent, and honestly, the beds are really comfortable, which… well, you know how hit-or-miss that can be in historic buildings.
What really got me was how the staff seemed to actually live in Florence – not just work there, if that makes sense. When I asked about dinner recommendations, the guy at the front desk didn’t just rattle off tourist traps. He told me about this little osteria around the corner on Via di Santo Spirito where locals go, and then started explaining which nights they have the best fish. I mean, that’s the kind of insight you can’t Google. The suites themselves are spacious enough that you don’t feel like you’re living out of a suitcase, and there’s something about the way the morning light comes through those tall windows that makes you want to linger over coffee instead of rushing out to check off monuments. The neighborhood comes alive gradually – first the coffee shops, then the market vendors setting up in Santo Spirito square, and by evening you’ve got this gentle hum of conversation drifting up from the street-level restaurants. It’s not quiet exactly, but it’s not chaotic either. Just… Florence being Florence, you know?
Look, I’ve stayed in fancier places and I’ve definitely stayed in cheaper ones, but there’s something to be said for a place that gets the basics right while giving you a genuine sense of the city. The 9.3 rating makes sense when you’re actually there – it’s not trying to be flashy or revolutionary, just solid and authentic and thoughtfully done. Plus, parking is tricky in this part of town (fair warning), but they’ll sort you out with options nearby, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need a car anyway. Everything worth seeing is walkable, and everything worth eating is even closer. I’d come back, which is really the only review that matters, right?
